Description:

The founders of Espro have a simple mission statement: Enable consistent espresso every time. Making great espresso is a process that you want to do exactly the same way every time, but this process is an art form, and it takes the right tools and practice to get it right.

Making espresso involves several important steps and having the right tools at hand, and a good working knowledge of those tools in order to produce that perfect shot of espresso. Experts agree that having a good espresso machine, coffee grinder, espresso tamper, and the right selection of coffee beans are paramount to achieving espresso that is brimming with flavor and aroma. With practice and patience your espresso will be topped with the hallmark of perfect espresso, a thick layer of golden crema.

So, you have the tools of the trade and you practice, but it seems that one element of the espresso making process always seems to be inconsistent. Volumes have been written about this inconsistency in books and in online coffee forums, and aspiring baristas everywhere have almost given up their quest for perfect espresso because of it.

If you have been trying to achieve that perfect shot of espresso, you now realize what we are discussing here, it is the art of tamping espresso grounds and applying just the right pressure to achieve a consistent espresso extraction time after time.

Applying just the right amount of pressure to the coffee grounds is the only inconsistent element in espresso production assuming that your espresso machine and coffee grinder are functioning properly. Learning to use an espresso tamper at first seems like childÆs play right? Well, not really because it takes the right pressure applied consistently to the coffee grounds each time to yield espresso that is the same time after time.

There is one simple rule of thumb for tamping espresso grounds. The coffee grounds in your portafilter should be evenly tamped with thirty pounds of downward pressure. If you do this your espresso should be consistent from one shot to the next. But, what does thirty pounds feel like? How do you know if you are applying thirty pounds or not?

The Espro Tamper features a patent pending mechanism built into the handle that provides feedback in the form of a subtle ôclickö indicating that exactly thirty pounds of downward pressure has been achieved. At last, there is an espresso tamper that takes all of the guesswork of tamping espresso grounds. Now you can be expert after just a few tamps!

Thirty pounds of downward pressure is considered by espresso experts to be the optimum pressure applied to espresso grounds to achieve an even and level pressure, which in turn yields a consistent espresso time after time. It has been suggested that one should use a bathroom scale to get the feel of what thirty pounds of downward pressure feels like. The Espro Tamper solves this dilemma.

The revolutionary Espro Tamper is the only tamper currently in production that is spring loaded to measure the exact amount of tamping pressure needed for perfect espresso extraction. Excellent as a training tool or as a great addition to your espresso preparation toolbox, this innovative product takes the guesswork out of gauging the right amount of tamping pressure.
In the case of the Espro Tamper, much deliberation was given to design. The tamper is a pioneer in new design development with its spring-loaded tamping action feature. With each tamp measuring exactly thirty pounds of downward pressure, the Espro Tamper takes all guesswork out of the tamping process.
Each Espro Tamper is carefully crafted with a polished stainless steel base, anodized turned metal handle, heavy-duty steel spring components and attention to detail like no other. The manufacturer, Espro, Inc., has a great deal of knowledge about the manufacture of high quali

I know what you are thinking, do I really need to spend this much on a tamper? I answer is simply yes. This allows you to quick learn to do a perfect tamp. It just removes one of the large variables to making a great shot. I had never made espresso on a real machine before and because I purchased this tamper, I was able to create a very constant puck. Espresso never came out of one side more than another. I've also been able to teach my 16 year how to pull a shot mainly because we have this tamper.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Tamper for Novice or Pro 02/07/2008
Reviewer: Michael Fowler   (2) from Pigeon Forge, TN US
I purchased the Espro tamper primarily to make it easier for my wife but I have to say this tamper is one of the best I've ever used. It feels solid and comfortable in the hand and is very well balanced. The mechanism that measures the proper 30lbs of pressure is smooth and has an ever so slight "click" indicating tamping success. This is an excellent accessory for the aspiring Barista or a seasoned Pro.

Simple: if you are a beginner, you get this. (P.S.) 1st-line should advertise this item more. I just happened to get this clever tamper by chance when I purchased Silvia. Without this, it would have taken a lot more time to get used to tamping.
