I got my Rancilio Sylvia a few months ago & loved it. I have been using it with a "prosumer" Kitchen Aid grinder that I've had for a few years, and I thought that was great. Then somebody gave me some pre-ground Lavazza beans, and I noticed that they behaved a lot differently in the Sylvia than the stuff I had been getting out of my grinder. I eventually decided to upgrade to the Rocky. Holy cow, am I glad I did. This thing makes all the difference in the world. It is amazing how much better the shots are that I'm able to pull now compared to anything I had been able to pull before, *even though I already loved the Sylvia*. It looks nice next to the Sylvia, appears bomb-proof & all that, but ... THE GRIND! WOW!

Freshly ground coffee for espresso is what I want and get with the Rocky doserless. (While considering the doser model, it seemed likely that stale ground coffee in the doser would mix with fresh.) I grind into a small pyrex cup and can see when just enough is ground. Using the scoop to fill, smooth and level coffee in the portafilter keeps the grind in the basket where I want it and sets up the tamp. Rocky is well-built and dependable. The only criticism I have is that you need to be a contortionist or have three hands to lower the grind setting.

Wanted to buy a burr grinder for both espresso and french press. Was going to buy Macap 4 after researching. Jim at 1st Line basically said I had two choices: 2 grinders or Rocky which is the best at doing both. I bought the Rocky. Excellent Build quality. Relatively quiet. Grinds are great. 0 to 50 settings. I went with doserless as well. Really great grinder.

This wonderful machine creates the finest, evenly-ground powder for rich espresso. (And doserless means one less thing to go wrong.) It is relatively quiet--it almost purrs--takes up very little counter space, looks great, and is built like a battleship.
