Although you may get a little better microfoam results with the one-hole tip, I found that the 3-hole tip better suited my needs in order to steam for 3 to 4 drinks with the Silvia. You may have to adjust your technique a bit as the 3-holes design changes the steam pattern flowing into the milk. Also, I have had some art quality foam using this tip...so it's not impossible. Having both tips is nice for whatever foaming mood you are in.

This steam tip with the 2 extra holes really maximizes the steam and hot water getting into your frothing pitcher or coffee cup. Major improvement over the standard. Very easy to install as well.

You won't believe how much difference this little add-on makes. It takes some getting used to, because it really moves the milk around and can cause too much foam.

Editor's note: Please note the the Silvia 3 hole steam tip is designed for customers who just recently purchased the Silvia - as it is new Silvia owners who have the most difficult time with the one hole tip and use the 3 hole tip to learn frothing faster. The 3 hole tip does not work well once a user has used the single hole tip and has taken the few months to master the single hole steam tip.
I was using my Miss Silvia with the manufacturer supplied one hole wand tip for several months before I installed the three hole tip. By that time, I had a pretty good handle on making excellent microforam. The three hole tip has been frustratingly difficult for me, because I am very used to the technique for the singe hole. I switched back within two days, and then tried it again when I felt I had truly mastered the single hole tip. This time the three hole tip lasted only one day on my machine. I've read others reviews about how the three hole tip makes it easier, but for me, it is much more difficult to control. I find that it is difficult to get a vortex going at all - probably because the steam is going in three different directions. Also, when I lower the pitcher to bring the tip to just under the surface, I get a nasty foam with huge bubbles - very undesireable results. I'm not one who wants to sit there and figure out exactly how long I should wait from flipping the switch. For me, if the lights on Silvia is good to go. In fact, I prefer longer steaming times, because it allows me to make more microfoam.

I was just getting into coffee when I ordered Silvia with the 3 hole steam tip. I read a lot of stuff about how it microfoams better and what not all over the place (mostly adverts, now I think about it). The night I got my machine, I put it on there, and the next morning I tried it out. It's really cool looking, I'll say that for it. My initial results were, not surprisingly, mediocre. Within days, it was much better, I was getting decent microfoam (though not "art" quality). I continued to read stuff on coffeegeek.com about microfoaming, and stumbled onto a post by Dan Kehn about how he felt the tip was a crutch of sorts, that would end up limiting your potential. Heh, the next day I put the single hole tip back on. Steaming takes marginally longer with the steam tip, but it doesn't matter at all. Steam power on silvia ranges from poor to insane based on the boiler cycle. If you start steaming about 1:30 after hitting the switch (assuming you just brewed a shot), the power you get is amazing, regardless of the tip. you can paint the walls with milk with either one if you aren't careful! At any rate, I found that the single hole tip was a bit harder to use at first, but after about a week I was to the point where I got whirlpools that easily dwarfed the best ones I got with the 3-hole tip, and the microfoam began to get very consistent and very much better than with the 3 hole tip, I think. BOTTOM LINE: The 3 hole tip will make steaming easier, at a small cost of some quality. The 1-hole tip will take longer to master, but provide you with better microfoam if you stick with it. If you're the type of person that likes to focus on technique and is obsessed with constantly improving every aspect of your coffee experience, don't bother with the 3 hole tip. If you just want to make espresso and take what the machine dishes out, and have simple, decently-foamed milk, have a look into it, it will simplify things at a fairly small cost of potential performance.

Description:
So many customers asked for it, and we listened! We have developed a three hole steam tip for Miss Silvia. The purpose is to steam and froth your milk more rapidly and acquire the true efficiency of the Silvia boiler. This will NOT fit the Silvia v3.
