I bought this grinder as well as a Mazzer mini. In terms of grind quality, both are the same. Though not stepless like the Mazzer, the MACAP is an overall better performer. The Mazzer may be stepless but the adjusting collar is so tight, it's hard for me to move it without exerting so much force that I way overshoot the target so I really won't bother unless the shots are really off. The Macap has minute ridges that make adjusting the grind a snap. I often grind for espresso, then drip, then back to espresso again in a matter of seconds. I can also get right back to my original setting. Forget about doing that on the Mazzer. Also, the Macap doser leaves WAY WAY fewer grinds than the Mazzer. On top of it, the Macap has a faster breaking mechanism so that you can pulse the grinder to clear out the chute. If you are a neatnik and really like to pulse, brush, pulse - those extra seconds add up. Plus, it fits under the cabinets and looks beautiful whereas the Mazzer has a more industrial look and has to be used hopperless or have the hopper chopped down.

The Macap is our first semi/commercial grinder, the first step (well, second after good quality beans) in upgrading our espresso experience. It was easy to set up, and very simple to dial in for several selections of beans we had on hand. Personally, we like the stepped adjustment as it lets us get repeatable results after the initial dialing in. The doser sweeps very cleanly. We use a small brush to get all the grinds from the chute to the doser since we only grind what we need on a shot-by-shot basis. A doserless version might be nice for folks like us, however I have read some reports that doserless models can be messy, and I definitely appreciate how neat our Macap is.

While maybe not as well known as a Mazzer Mini, the MACAP has been getting good reviews as the one that might finally unseat the Mini from its position as the best grinder for the serious home espresso enthusiast. After considering both, I decided to purchase a MACAP from 1st Line based on the quality of the grinder and the great interaction I had with 1st Line staff. Both decisions were right on; the MACAP has taken espresso preparation in our house to a new level, and my experience with 1st Line was as good as I've had with any online retailer, ever. My only regret is I didn't make the jump sooner!
